Healthy lifestyle is the main prerequisite for a comfortable and happy longevity. Exercise and proper diet can prevent all kinds of diseases when implemented the right way.
Skipping meals is a definite no-no. It is strongly recommended that we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Skipping one of those causes a temporary energy deficiency which slows down the metabolism and activates the survival mode of our organism. As a result the body stores food in the form of fat. Routinely feeding the body increases the metabolism. The organism starts dissolving the fat because it thinks it doesn’t really need it anymore.
The daily intake of two to three liters of water is very important. It is imperative that we avoid carbonated, noncarbonated soft drinks and alcohol.
Studies suggest that increasing the intake of protein prevents heart diseases by lowering the levels of the “dangerous” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and raising the levels of the “healthy” high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Most of the enzymes in human body are protein-based. These enzymes are solely responsible for the metabolic rate of the body. Lean protein is contained in meat, dairy products, soy, fish and poultry.
Whole grain foods contain fiber which protects against colon cancer and heart diseases. Fiber also reduces blood sugar, bad LDL, and overall blood cholesterol.
Vegetables and fruits are a definite must. A balanced nutrition plan should include at least six servings of fruits and veggies every day. It is strongly recommended that you eat fruits as in-between meal snacks.
Last but not least, health experts encourage people to do no less than three cardio exercises a week plus yoga.
